Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis met Union Minister for Finance, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee at his residence to apprise him the status of AMU Murshidabad Centre of West Bengal. Prof. Azis said that some local people are creating hindrances for the construction work at Murshidabad Centre.
Prof. Azis urged the Union Minister for urgent need of his intervention in this matter to ensure the smooth construction of building at the Murshidabad Centre. He also appealed him to talk to the West Bengal government to take action against those who are obstructing the construction work at AMU Murshidabad Centre. He said that a comprehensive plan of construction work has been evolved for the centre.
Mr. Pranab Mukherjee assured the Vice Chancellor that he would discuss the issue with West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms. Mamta Benerjee. On the demands of adequate funds for developing the AMU centre in Maharashtra and malappuram, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee assured that funds will not be a problem for these centres.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis also met the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan in New Delhi and thanked him for the identification of 332 acres land at Khuldabad of Aurangabad district for the establishment of AMU Centre. Prof. Azis requested the Chief Minister to execute transfer of the identified land to the Aligarh Muslim University at the earliest so that the work for the establishment of AMU Centre in Aurangabad is expedited.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra assured that his government is committed to the establishment of AMU Centre in Maharashtra and the land transfer process will be started soon.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra enquired about the academic activities of the University and its frontline departments, projects funded by different agencies, AMU Vice Chancellor said that the AMU has third position with respect to research publications.
