Aligarh: Prof. Geeta Rajput, Chairman, Department of Prosthodontics, Dr. Z. A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University along with Dr. Shraddha Rathi, Assistant Professor has carried out a maxillofacial rehabilitation of the lost parts of a patient for the first time in Aligarh district.
A patient, Avdesh from an adjoining village, who had the history of adenoid cystic carcinoma of maxilla for last 8 years and was operated for the excision of partial eye and half palate, complained of difficultly in chewing food and speaking. An operation was made on him for fabrication of intra-oral splint and artificial eye and both these plates were retained by magnetic force intra-orally.
On the patient’s complain for the rehabilitation of excised eye and palate, Prof. Geeta Rajput and Dr. Shraddha Rathi, successfully did a maxillofacial prosthesis. In the process, spectacles were also used for aiding the retention and chemoflaging the margins of eye prosthesis.
