AMU Faculty Presented Paper in Hong Kong
Aligarh: Dr. Sami Rafiq, Associate Professor and Dr. Shahla Ghauri, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University presented papers in the 15th Biennial Symposium on Literature and Culture in the Asia-Pacific Region held at the Hong Kong University.
Dr. Shahla Ghauri’s paper titled ”Daring to Risk: Women in Kamila Shamsie’s Broken Verses”, presented in the third session, titled “Women and Representation in the Age of Risk” highlighted the risks in the lives of Muslim women in Pakistan and was well received.
Dr. Sami Rafiq’s paper, ”Risk and Redressal in Sufi Literary Texts”, was presented during second session, titled “Risk and Elegance: The State of Address and Redress in Literary Texts”. Dr. Sami Rafiq focused on the literary texts by Ibn Arabi, Mohammad Iqbal and Idries Shah to highlight redressal of risk in the precarious modern world.
The conference also included an excursion to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and a reading session was held with the scenic view of the Victoria Harbour in background. Dr. Sami Rafiq read out a story and poems which were warmly appreciated.
The Conference concluded with an elegant dinner at Jaspa’s Central in Hong Kong. The Conference drew participants from various countries like Australia, USA, Philippines, Malaysia and India.
