Aligarh: A six-member delegation of State Islamic University of Indonesia visited the Aligarh Muslim University to explore prospects of cooperation in the field of higher studies and research, and draw a student exchange programme between the two universities. The delegation met the Deans and Chairmen of different faculties and departments of studies and discussed areas of mutual interest and assistance.
The Education Attaché of Embassy of Republic of Indonesia in India, Dr. Engineer Son Kuswadi said that the Aligarh Muslim University was taken very high in Indonesia. He said that first Indonesian Vice President Mr. Hatta has also visited AMU in 1955. He said there were several Indonesian students who received their education in AMU and rose above to serve their country while holding important positions.
Dr. Kuswadi said that there was a large number of students in Indonesia who wished to pursue higher education in India, and especially in AMU, as India held a leading position among countries providing best educational and technological facilities. He said that Indonesian government was interested in sending their students to AMU to receive their higher education.
Dr. Rohimin, Dean of the State Islamic University of Indonesia said there were several areas of mutual interest like Islamic Finance, Islamic Banking, Islamic Theology and Islamic Studies in which student exchange progarmmes could be undertaken and a Memorandum of Understanding could be signed between the two institutions of higher learning.
Welcoming the Indonesian delegation, Brig. (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AMU, introduced them to the academic activities of the University and highlighted the specific areas of mutual interest and cooperation. He urged the delegation to present a blue print of academic and research areas in which these two universities could reach to a MoU. He said that the Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah was on a visit to the US.
The members of the Indonesian delegation included Dr. Riswanto, Dr. Siraj H., Rector of the State Islamic University of Indonesia and Dr. Arif Rahman Hakim. From AMU side, AMU Registrar, Group Captain (Retd.) Shahrukh Shamshad, Controller of Examination, Prof. Pervez Mustajab, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Prof. Anis Ismail, Dean, Faculty of Management, Prof. Khalid Azam, Dean, Faculty of Theology, Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi, Chairman, Department of Sunni Theology, Dr. Mufti Mohammad Zahid, Chairman, Department of Islamic Studies, Prof. Syed Hasan, Chairman, Department of Electronics Engineering, Prof. Salim Beg were present during the meeting.
Earlier, AMU Registrar, Group Captain (Retd.) Shahrukh Shamshad welcomed the delegation at the University Guest House. The delegation paid a rich tribute to the founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan at his last abode and visited historical buildings of the University along with the Public Relations Officer, Dr. Rahat Abrar.
