Aligarh: The Centre of Advanced Study (CAS), Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University recently hosted a seminar on ‘Exploring on Medieval India through Persian Sources’. The seminar was sponsored by the National Mission for Manuscripts, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to explore sources of information from untapped and underutilized Persian sources, which are available in various forms like archival material, manuscripts and evidences based on Numismatic Sources and epigraphs.
While presiding over the Inaugural Function, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) emphasised the importance of language and literature in reconstruction of historical past. He added that the historians must be trained in one of the languages like the foreign diplomats.
Professor, Ali Athar, Chairperson and Coordinator of CAS talked about in details, the importance of Persian Language in medieval History along with Sufi Malfuzat as valuable source of Medieval History.
The participants in the seminar presented their papers, while incorporating various sources of information, available in Libraries and Archives from various parts of India. The Centre of Advanced Study, AMU has in its possession over 100 manuscripts, transcriptions and microfilms apart from edited works published over 100 years ago.
