Aligarh: The Cardiology Centre, J. N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University is celebrating the World Hypertension Day on May 17. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Asif Hasan, Director, Cardiology Centre said that Hypertension is the most common cardiovascular problem in India while about one billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension. Studies have shown that only 50% patients of hypertension are aware of their condition while only 50% of them were on treatment, out of which only 50% were on adequate anti-hypertension drugs.
Dr. Hasan said that blood pressure is essential to control, as it may lead to complications like heart failure, stroke, coronary artery diseases, peripheral vascular diseases etc. He said there are several myths regarding BP control that BP should be treated less aggressively in elderly people while the fact is that it should be controlled aggressively regardless of age of the patient. He said blood pressure should be routinely measured after 30 years of age or earlier as well, if family history is positive.
Dr. Hasan said that blood pressure control begins at home with lifestyle modifications as early as in pre-hypertension stage. Weight control, restricted salt intake (2 gram daily), light potassium foods, daily walk of 30-45 minutes, avoidance of fatty or fried food are initial and important steps to control hypertension. Proper consultation with doctor and regular intake of anti-hypertensives is a must for the patients. Blood pressure should be controlled with use of more than one type of anti-hypertensives in complicated cases for better results, added Dr. Hasan.

Aligarh: The Department of Pedodontics and Periodontics, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a Dental Health Education camp in Aligarh and Mahamayanagar District in collaboration with the Indian Dental Association, Aligarh Branch and sponsored by the Colgate Palmolive India. The camp educated 18978 students of about 37 schools including St. Fidelis, STS High School, Prathmik Vidhyalay Tilothy, etc. on dental diseases, oral hygiene practices and brushing techniques through PowerPoint presentations, flip-charts and models.
The program was conducted under the leadership of Indian Dental Association (IDA) President-Aligarh Branch, Dr. M. K. Jindal, Chief Coordinator “Bright Smile Bright Future- National Oral Health Program-2011” and Chairman, Department of Pedodontics. At different schools, the program was conducted by different IDA members including Dr. Rajat Pratap Singh (Branch Secretary), Dr. Faraz Fazli (CDH Convener), Dr. Saima Yunus Khan, Dr. Amitabh Varshney, Dr. Rubi Khan, Dr. G.S. Hashmi, Dr. Ravinder Gupta, Dr. Aminul Haque, Dr. Abdul Bari and the student representatives of IDA like Dr. Mohammad Abbas Khan, Afzal Ahmed and Areiba Arif.
The basic aim of IDA is to create awareness regarding the oral hygiene among the students and work for the minimization of oral and dental problems among the people by achieving the Zero Cavity target in similar fashion as applied for the eradication of Polio.
The program was carried all over the nation to create awareness among the students about importance of oral hygiene and methods to attain good oral health. Dental Health is as essential as the total body health and for the overall well being of the person. On the basis of the examination and assessment of 1300 students from Class VI-X done at St. Fidelis Senior Secondary School, it was observed that 1 out of 5 students suffered from misalignment of teeth that required proper Orthodontic treatment, whereas 1 out of 3 students had poor oral hygiene and required proper treatment followed by intensive counseling regarding the importance of oral hygiene. Similarly, 1 out of 10 students showed evidences of Dental decay. The comparative study made on the basis of dental health and the academic performance of the students showed that the academically sound students’ dental status was same to that of normal students. The same result was obtained while the study focused on the students hailing from various economic and educational backgrounds.
Father George Paul, Principal, St. Fidelis School, President of CBSE Board Schools Aligarh, President All India Association of Catholic Schools and Sister Concepta appreciated the efforts and observed that the awareness created in the young children will go a long way in dental care in children.

The 23 posts of officers and employees required for the office of the board would be filled up by deputation from the department. The term of the board will be of three years.

E-Governance Managers

Taking yet another concrete measure toward promoting good governance the cabinet sanctioned 420 posts in Information Technology sector. These include 50 posts of e-governance manager under e-governance society, 320 posts of assistant e-governance manager at development block level and 50 posts of data entry operator at district level. This would help in more efficient implementation of e-governance projects in the state.

Majara-Tolas

The cabinet decided to electrify the Majara/Tolas and habitations having over 100 population of 2,332 electrified villages in Betul, Morena and Harda districts. This will provide electric connection to 96 thousand 320 BPL families.

Relief for Crop Loss

The cabinet decided to amend the provisions of R.B.C. 6-4 to change the arrangement for providing relief to the farmers for damage to their crops by wild animals. At present, the DFO provides the relief to such farmers in such cases. This would cause inordinate delay in provision of relief to the affected farmers. Following the decision now revenue officers would sanction the relief as per the norms fixed for relief in natural calamities. The relief would be provided from the budget of forest department. The forest department would authorize the revenue officers for sanction, drawing and distributing the relief.

Silo Bags

The cabinet decided for storage of wheat in silo bags on an experimental basis. The work would be carried out by Madhya Pradesh Warehousing Corporation on pilot basis. For this work land would be made available free of cost to the corporation and after the bags are emptied the land would again be vested in government.

Other Decisions

As per the policy of industrial promotion and increasing power generation the private sector industrial groups have started setting up captive power plants and power generation centres. As per the provisions of Vidyut Ahiniyam-2003 fee has to be paid for applying to get licence for transmission and distribution.

The cabinet decided to fix a fee of Rs. 5 lakh for applying to the Electricity Regulatory Commission for this. The state owned power companies would be exempt from it.

The cabinet decided to permanently withdraw 10 percent pension of Shri A.L. Parameshwari(retired) conservator of forest, Morena. He was found guilty of negligence of duty during the posting in a case of illegal poaching of neelgai.
